SUMMARY:Tunnel Building Farmer Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Come to this workshop to learn how to build your own season extension high tunnel! We will discuss how to bend your own hoops for a Caterpillar tunnel and a commonly purchased Farmer Friends tunnel design. If the wind allows\, we will pull poly on one or two of the tunnels. The workshop portion will be from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m.\, but participants can arrive early (anytime after 1 p.m.) and help the NCN crew ahead of the workshop to gain more hands-on experience. Please check our Facebook event the day of for weather cancelations due to rain or extreme cold. This workshop is made possible through a collaboration with the USDA FSA office and WMEAC.

We will tour NCN’s automated irrigation system\, look at drip line and overhead irrigation systems\, and build an irrigation manifold so participants can learn how to make a variety of irrigation connections. This is helpful information for farmers and homesteaders. This event is rain or shine; we will be in our greenhouse if the weather is poor. DESCRIPTION:New City Neighbors will be hosting this upcoming listening session for growers in Kent County on behalf of Public Agency (PA) who has partnered with Kent County Food Policy Council (KCFPC) and New Venture Advisors (NVA) to gain community input for the creation of a Food System Plan for Kent County. This plan will identify areas of priority for our community and outline recommendations for policy makers. This collaborative process has been structured to engage with stakeholders in four primary areas of interest: (1) Growth and Harvest\, (2) Processing and Distribution\, (3) Access and (4) Waste and Recovery. This session will cover Growth and Harvest. \nParticipants will have a free soup dinner prepared by New City Cafe\, and Individuals that end up participating in a focus group will be compensated for their time and expertise with a $25 Visa gift card honorarium.
