The Food

At New City Farm we have a strong commitment to growing with natural and organic methods.  While we are not certified, we use no chemical fertilizers, pesticides, or herbicides.  We do not use GMO seeds and value crop diversity and rotation.  New City Farm believes in investing in the future, not only through the work we do with youth, but also in our encouragement to community health and by building healthy soil in our place.

Our food is grown on compost enriched soil, right in the heart of Grand Rapids.  For those in or near the city, it is hard to find fruits or vegetables grown more locally than New City Farm.  Everything is harvested ripe and given out quickly to ensure the most nutrient dense, delicious food.

At our farm, we also strive to grow efficiently with sustainable abundance in mind.  It is amazing how much food can be gown in small city spaces, and we want to share that abundance with our neighbors.  Michigan’s dramatic seasonal changes provide us the chance to farm with exciting techniques and tools.  We work to push our vegetables earlier into the spring and later into the winter so that quality local produce is available for more of the year.
