Empowering Youth to Reach Their Full Potential
On Solid Ground
In October we were surprised to discover a former football field for sale just down the road from our farmhouse in Creston. Knowing this was one of the last remaining greenspaces in the neighborhood, we moved quickly to secure the property. This new land will allow us to bring a majority of our farm production back into the city, but this unexpected gift has us imagining even more. Our capital campaign, On Solid Ground, invites you to dream with us. What if this space could be the launch pad for a new urban agriculture training center? We are dreaming big, will you join us?
New City Café
Our café serves delicious wood fired pizzas, baked goods and more while allowing us to train our youth on farm-to-table goodness.
Cafe will re-open May 2025!
New City Farm
New City Farm grows delicious food, but its purpose is more than just feeding people. For almost a decade, New City Neighbors has been working hard in the Northeast side of Grand Rapids to positively impact our community. The farm’s main objective is to provide job and life skills to high school youth in our neighborhood. Student employees learn all aspects of the hard work of organic vegetable growing. Student employees also participate in curriculum around job skills, food justice, anti-racism and food & faith.

I found a new part of myself that I didn’t even know I had. I became happy and grew my mind to new ideals and perspectives that I wouldn’t have imagined possible. New City Neighbors is welcoming and inspiring.
New City Neighbors has given me so much insight into how the world works. For a first job, I’ve learned a lot about leading, managing my own schedule and much more. I also got to learn all this in an amazing community full of awesome and supportive people
