The seasons are changing and new things are beginning! One of the big things happening for us is that New City Afterschool will be launching this Fall starting on Tuesday, October 6th. This program will give us the opportunity to have more intentional time with the kids that we serve on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 3:30 to 6:00pm. We are looking forward to a program that will be focused on supporting their education, providing enrichment activities and life skills, and encouraging them in their faith in Jesus. We also are looking forward to developing a High School team who will help serve our younger students.
As the new Program Director, I couldn’t be more excited about being a part of this new ministry that will build upon the great work happening here. I can already see that there is a great community of people who have made so much of what New City Neighbors does possible. And we need you again this Fall!
We have a number of needs for volunteers to help us get things started, check out the list below:
10 Tutors/Homework Helpers for 1 hour on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays, 3:30-4:30pm. We ask volunteers to commit to one hour a week of tutoring with an individual or small group of students in either a particular subject in which they need extra support, or to help them with staying on track with their homework.
4 Club Leaders/Assistants for 1 hour on Thursdays, 5:00 to 6:00pm. New City Afterschool will have clubs that run for 6 weeks at a time and will focus on different enrichment activities such as cooking, art, chess, gardening, and more. 5 Small Group Leaders for 1 hour on Tuesdays, 5:00 to 6:00pm. At the heart of everything we do is our faith and pursuit of our relationship with Jesus. We invite you to consider leading a small group of students as they study the Word, ask questions, and grow in their relationship with Jesus together.
3 Activity Assistants for 1 hour on Wednesdays, 5:00 to 6:00pm. Every Wednesday we will be doing a special activity together- this may be a service project, some sports and recreation time, or something else. We need a couple of people who will assist with these special activities.
Who should volunteer? We would love volunteers who are in High School and beyond (no age limit on serving!). Just let us know how you’d like to help.
