Youth Activities

We host a variety of farm-to-table clubs for youth ranging from K-12. The clubs are often 6 weeks in length and introduce youth to a variety of topics including introduction to Greenhouse, intro to Gardening, Pizza Club, Supper Club and more.

New City Farm

New City Farm grows delicious food, but its purpose is more than just feeding people.  For almost a decade, New City Neighbors has been working hard in the Northeast side of Grand Rapids to positively impact our community. The farm’s main objective is to provide job and life skills to high school youth in our neighborhood.  Each summer we employ and train 10-15 high school students. Student employees learn all aspects of the hard work of organic vegetable growing. Student employees also participate in curriculum around job skills, food justice, anti-racism and food & faith.  

New City Cafe

Our outdoor pop-up cafe serves delicious wood fired pizzas, soups and salads while allowing us to train our youth across the farm-to-table spectrum. We are currently moving our cafe location to the “Farmhouse.” The 1890’s farmhouse will be renovated to become the new base of operations for New City Neighbors’ youth programming and will include a commercial kitchen upgrade and an outdoor cafe. We anticipate reopening in the summer of 2022.

Get Involved

New City Neighbors has a variety of volunteer and employment opportunities available for both youth and adults depending on the season. Each summer we employ and mentor 10-12 high school students in a variety of skills within a Christian framework of discipleship.
