This past Sunday was GEMS Sunday. Every year the girls who attend GEMS are invited to attend church at Fourth Reformed on the last Sunday of the GEMS season. It can be hard to get many of the girls to come to the church service, but we had a pretty good showing on Sunday morning. The girls recited their verse for the year, Philippians 4:8, which says, “Finally, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable–if anything is excellent or praiseworthy–think about such things.” This is a big verse, with a lot to unpack. Since October, the GEMS leaders have worked hard to communicate the truth of this verse, and help the girls understand the kind of life God is calling them too.

It is clear that the girls are starting to understand what Paul is saying in Philippians 4:8. Sunday morning the girls stood in front of the church, with huge smiles on their faces, and lead the church in worship.

I want to take a moment to thank the GEMS leaders. There is a group of women who are dedicated to serving these girls on a regular basis. They give lots of time, energy, and love to helping young girls grow to become godly women. Without them, there would be no GEMS ministry.

Ladies, if you read this, thank you for being the light of Christ to the girls who attend GEMS. You are doing great work for the kingdom of God, and you ARE making a difference!
